Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy discloses the general privacy practices of Houston in Action and its dealings with personal information, including but not limited to names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses, both online and offline.

How Houston in Action uses your information Houston in Action does not trade, sell personal information, nor does it use personal information outside of our civic engagement work. We will never share personally identifiable information with any government entity.  

Houston in Action works to ensure that all systems that house data are safe and secure. All personally identifiable information provided to Houston in Action will only be accessible to the Partner Organization and authorized Houston in Action personnel who have signed data confidentiality agreements. The personally identifiable information will only be used to measure the progress and create aggregate reports that will not contain personally identifiable information. No personally identifiable information will be produced to any entity outside of authorized Houston in Action personnel. 

We have today, and will in the future, have arrangements with third party service providers, such data warehouses, text message systems, and consultants. In order to provide some services such as mapping, storing and reporting our collective work, we may be required to share anonymized, aggregate or non-personally identifiable information with a provider in order to create a map, store data, report, or other service. For example, information input into an SMS system would only be used for purposes of sending the text message. 

Children's Privacy

In accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998, we will never knowingly request or solicit personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 13 without verifiable parental consent. In the event that we receive actual knowledge that we have collected such personal information without the requisite and verifiable parental consent, we will delete that information from our database as quickly as is practical.

All personnel and/or volunteers who use Houston in Action systems that grant access to personal data of private individuals have signed a confidentiality agreement before they use the system and have provided the signed agreement to Houston in Action before using the system. 

Effective Date and Changes

This Privacy Policy is effective as of April 1, 2020. Houston in Action reserves the right to modify the terms of this policy at any time and in our sole discretion, by posting a change notice to this page.
