NOW HIRING: Contract Content Manager

Houston in Action is looking for a content management consultant to adapt and refine training content, create creative social media content, and provide writing support to staff for the various programs of Houston in Action, including communications, organizing, and census training among other things. Creative writing skills, and an ability to tell stories with images, graphics, and video through training materials and social media are preferred. An ideal consultant will bring a history of creativity and a unique approach and voice to story content management and development.

A successful content management consultant will bring a systems and process approach to the work that will streamline content processes while also increasing the capacities of Houston in Action member organizations, and managing the day-to-day.

The content management consultant will work under the supervision of the communications manager and with the support of graphic and video consultants, as required.

This is a contract position for candidates based in the Houston, TX region. This position will be contracted through December 2020, and is expected to require between 30-40 hours per week.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work with individuals from diverse backgrounds with different linguistic needs and corresponding interpretation services
  • Advance the adaptation of training presentations, videos, or other materials from their source to branded Houston in Action distribution-ready content
  • Manage internal and external content management and distribution channels for training materials
  • Develop social media content in support of Houston in Action activities, as well as those of our member-wide programs, including census and voter engagement
  • Support Houston in Action staff with writing and presentations, while maintaining established brand language
  • Support editing and finalization of grant proposals and other development materials.


  • Ability to hold relationships with disenfranchised community, other Community in Action organizers, and Houston in Action member organizations
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice issues
  • Experience working effectively and collaboratively with diverse populations
  • Solutions-oriented and collaborative work style
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Basecamp and Google Drive/Docs/Sheets
  • Social media expertise or experience in Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
  • Strong communication skills; ability to synthesize information in an easily understandable manner
  • Skills in social media, digital and peer-to-peer outreach
  • Graphic design and/or video skills preferred
  • Fluency in at least one additional language to English preferred
  • Experience in community organizing, nonprofit and/or social justice setting preferred

$2,600-3,200 monthly. Compensation commensurate with experience. This is a contract position that does not qualify for benefits.
